The first school at Center Point was housed in this cabin more than a century ago in backcountry Central Texas. Pioneer Texas children studied their ABC's within the cypress walls which were cut from the nearby Guadalupe River. The original mortar between the 12-14-inch logs was a hand-mixed solution of baked lime and sand, dug locally from shallow pits. The making of cypress shakes for roofing was the first industry along the Guadalupe in Kerr County.
